3mediumapples (such as Fuji or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced into thin strips
0.5cupall-purpose flour
1teaspoonground cinnamon
0.5cupbreadcrumbs (preferably panko for extra crunch)
2tablespoonsgranulated sugar
0.5teaspoonsalt
1largeegg, beaten
1spraycooking spray or oil for greasing
Instructions
Prepare the Apples: Begin by peeling and coring the apples. Cut them into thin strips that resemble French fries, ensuring they are uniform in size for even cooking. Set the apple strips aside on a plate or cutting board.
Make the Coating: In a shallow bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, ground cinnamon, granulated sugar, and salt, mixing well. In a separate bowl, beat the egg until frothy. In a third bowl, add the panko breadcrumbs, preparing for the coating process.
Coat the Apple Strips: Take each apple strip and first dip it into the flour mixture, making sure it’s fully covered. Next, immerse it in the beaten egg, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, coat the apple strip with panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to adhere. Repeat this process for all the apple strips, ensuring each one is evenly coated for maximum crunchiness.
Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for approximately 5 minutes. This step helps in achieving a crispy texture.
Air Fry the Apple Fries: Arrange the coated apple fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they aren’t overlapping. Lightly spray the fries with cooking spray or drizzle a small amount of oil over the top to help with browning. Air fry for about 10-12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to promote even cooking. The apple fries should emerge golden brown and crisp.
Cool and Serve: After the cooking time is up, carefully remove the apple fries from the air fryer. Allow them to cool slightly on a wire rack or plate before serving to maintain their crispiness.
Notes
Serve warm with caramel sauce or yogurt for dipping.
