3medium-sizedapples (recommended: Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and sliced into fry-shaped sticks
1cupall-purpose flour
2largeeggs, beaten until well blended
1cupbreadcrumbs (opt for panko for an extra crunch or use regular breadcrumbs)
1tablespoonground cinnamon
2tablespoonsgranulated sugar
0.5teaspoonsalt
to tastecooking spray (or a small amount of vegetable oil for brushing)
Instructions
Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for approximately 5 minutes to ensure even cooking.
In a shallow dish, combine the all-purpose flour with the salt. Mix well to ensure the salt is evenly distributed.
In a separate bowl, beat the eggs until smooth and thoroughly combined.
In a third bowl, mix together the breadcrumbs, granulated sugar, and ground cinnamon. Stir well to create an evenly flavored coating.
Take each apple stick and first dip it into the flour mixture, ensuring it is evenly coated. Gently shake off any excess flour.
Next, immerse the floured apple fries into the beaten eggs, making sure they are fully coated for better breadcrumb adhesion.
Finally, roll the apple fries in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing down lightly to secure the breadcrumbs to the apples.
Lightly spray the basket of your preheated air fryer with cooking spray to prevent sticking. Arrange the coated apple fries in a single layer within the basket, making sure they are not overcrowded for optimal crispiness.
Lightly spray the tops of the apple fries with cooking spray to add extra crunch during cooking.
Cook the apple fries for 8-10 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through the cooking time to promote even browning. They should be golden brown and crispy when done.
Carefully remove the apple fries from the air fryer and let them cool slightly before serving to avoid burns.
Notes
For an enticing presentation, serve with caramel sauce or yogurt for dipping.
